Wikipedia defines emerging technology as cutting-edge developments, which represent contemporary advances and innovation around the 21st century. Emerging technologies impact us socially, economically, politically or educationally. See Wikipedia for a list of emerging technologies that are currently affecting our world in one form or another. Some topics to explore when investigating emerging technology are:
  • information technology innovations
  • progressive developments
  • environmental technologies
  • new designs in transportation
  • energy technologies
  • biotechnology
  • robotics

Since technology changes at a rapid pace, you will be using all digital resources for this project since they are the most current sources for information.

WHS databases

Log into any of these databases by clicking on the link. If you are away from home, you will have to use a remote username and/or password. These can be found on on the database page or in the Library Media Center brochure.

You may wish to start with a broad search, such as "technology", "technology trends", "emerging technology" or narrow your search to a specific industry or technology (such as Facebook, social networking, hydrogen cars, Web 2.0, and the list goes on and on).
  • SIRS Issues Researcher Current information about contemporary issues. Try searching on technology or technology and privacy, mass media, Internet social use.
  • Gale Student Resource Center search for your topic and find full-text articles; multimedia, primary sources, newspapers, and other popular resources about your subject.

Internet sites

TED (Technology, Education, Design)- This is a collection of videocasts about cutting edge technology, education, and design. This Smithsonian site has excellent photographs and information about the Northern Plains and Plateau people.
New York Times- Technology Section of the NY Times has current stories about new technology issues. You can search their site for your topic.
Engadget- this is a technology blog This is a good place to start if you do not have a topic idea.
